Our Goal: Stop Violence against Women
Saathi conducted two days orientation workshop in Chitwan on the 3rd and 4th May and in Hetauda on 4th and 5th May. The two day workshop was organized for footballers and football officials of altogether 32 districts affiliated with all Nepal Football Association (ANFA). Altogether 90 people participated in the workshop. During the workshops footballers and the officials were oriented on gender concepts and informed about the situation of Gender Based Violence in Nepal especially domestic violence to promote social inclusion and gender equality. The participants were given a thorough orientation and asked to speak out against all forms of VAW in public events, media briefings and advertisements, banners, billboards
Influential people of the district including the Chief District Officer, Local Development Officer, Women Development Officer and various other prominent figures of the area were present for the inaugural session in each district. These honorary guests applauded Saathi’s work in the district and also expressed their willingness to support Saathi to combat violence against women.
The workshop was successful in raising the confidence of the participants to address issues related to violence against women more effectively. The open discussion and interaction between the participants throughout the program showed their interest, enthusiasm and commitment in the issue. Collective strategies were also built from the workshop to raise awareness on the issue. Overall the workshop proved extremely useful to all those involved.
