Sponsor a Child

Sirjana is 8 years old. She is from a village in the district of Sindhupalchowk – in the North of Nepal. Her family is very poor – her father is ill and pulls a cart for a living, her mother is suffering from TB. Sirjana was homeless and lived on the streets of Kathmandu with her two elder brothers. Her eldest brother works on a bus and the other now resides in SAATHI’s drop-in center.

Sirjana was brought to SAATHI’s rehabilitation center from the drop-in center. Despite her young age, she had been raped three or four times by senior boys living on the street. Sirjana has been provided with shelter, counseling and education in a secure and caring environment. With SAATHI and support from sponsors, she can now start rebuilding her life and planning her future.

Sudesh is 10 years old. He came to Kathmandu with his uncle a year ago when he began work in a local restaurant. He was beaten by his employers and when he left his place of work, he could no longer find his uncle. Homeless, he then began work as a conductor on a bus and also sold daily newspapers to get enough money for food.

SAATHI’s outreach workers found Sudesh living on the street and brought him to the rehabilitation center. His family is not interested in Sudesh – his father, stepmother and siblings have no contact with him. He doesn’t know anything about his mother. He has always had a strong wish to study and become an army man. With help from sponsors, Sudesh can now start working towards his dreams.

Education for a better life

SAATHI’s Sponsor a Child scheme is a great way for individuals to make a direct impact on a child’s life.

Children supported by the scheme are girls and boys that would otherwise have no access to education because they are:

  • Homeless
  • Orphans
  • From severely impoverished rural areas.

SAATHI offers supporters three types of sponsorship packages. Please follow the links above to find out more.
