Community Level Training

Training of Trainers to Advocate for the Elimination of Violence against Women at the Community level

Kathmandu Nepal.


SAATHI organized 5 days training entitled "Training of Trainers to Advocate for the Elimination of Violence against Women at the Community level" from 14 - 18 April 2009. Total 25 participants from all five-development regions of 4 districts participated in the training. The five districts were (Kapilvastu, Dang, Banke and Kanchanpur).

Participants for the training were representatives from different NGOs and organizations which are actively working at the community level. Most of the participants were Master Trainers and social mobilizers in their respective organizations.

The training sessions included in the workshop were, defining sex and gender, violence against women and girls in Nepalese context, Domestic Violence and its impact on women, children, family and community as whole, existing provision of law in the case of VAW&G, Rights to Information, International instruments to curb VAW such as CEDAW, UNSCR 1325, UNSCR 1820 Impact of conflict on women and children, and social and community mobilization.

Resource persons from the concerned fields (Ms. Bandana Rana- Sex and Gender and international instruments and Transitional Justice in Post Conflict Situation Mr. Pukar Shah- Domestic Violence and its Impact, Mr. Basanta Basnet - Existing Legal Provisions on VAW, Mr. Tanka Aryal - Rights to Information, Dr. Madhuri Singh - Social and Community Mobilization were invited. Participatory and interactive approach was applied during the workshop. The various methods used were lecture, discussion and brainstorming, group work., video show and Materials distributed during the training were training manuals, posters, pamphlets and booklets on domestic violence, 1325, 1820, Rights to Information.
