Beijing +20 National Women's Conference

Beijing +20 National Women’s Conference

2015 will mark 20 years since the United Nations Fourth World Conference on Women held in Beijing, China in September 1995, where representatives from 189 countries had unanimously adopted the Beijing Platform for Action. The BPFA reflected international commitment to the goals of equality, development and peace for all women everywhere. Celebrating the 20th anniversary of the conference, the 59th session of the United Nations Commission on the Status for Women will review the 20 years of Beijing Declaration from March 9th to 20th in 2015.

The Beijing Review provides an opportunity for women to examine their respective governments’ efforts and those of the other non- state actors in implementing the BPFA. It is an opportunity for holding leaders and governments accountable for their commitments made for women’s empowerment, gender equality and the promotion of women’s human rights. It is also an opportunity to build competence and confidence of women to raise voices and concerns. The outcome of the review will be a tool for advocacy for scaling and speeding–up implementation and strengthening accountability nationally, regionally and globally. Realising such an important opportunity National Network for Beijing-review Nepal (NNBN) and Beyond Beijing Committee (BBC) jointly organized a National Women's Conference on Beijing +20 on 20-22 August, 2014 at Staff College, Jawalakhel, Lalitpur. Saathi has taken responsibility of NNBN secretariat.
