12 July 2024, Shuklaphanta, Kanchanpur – Saathi, under the GOAL project, organized a meeting with various community groups in Shuklaphanta Municipality-11 to discuss their roles in preventing gender-based violence (GBV). The event aimed to sensitize participants and mainstream GBV prevention in their activities. A total of 35 participants, including ward chair and members, GBV monitoring group members, and women’s group members attended the event.

The program included a briefing on the GOAL project, its objectives, interventions, and stakeholder engagements. Discussions covered gender concepts, prevalent gender discrimination, and the roles of community groups in preventing GBV. Participants were encouraged to coordinate with the GBV monitoring group, the Judicial Committee of the Municipality, ward office, and social workers.
This initiative is part of Saathi’s ongoing program, Generating Ownership Awareness & Liberation (GOAL): From Harmful Gender Stereotypes and Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV), supported by AEIN Luxembourg. The three-year GOAL program has been instrumental in raising awareness and educating young individuals about harmful gender stereotypes and SGBV.

Bhagirathi Sunar, Chair of the women’s group, emphasized the group’s commitment to sensitization and prevention of GBV, acknowledging the ongoing issues in the community. Concluding the program, Ward Chair Sher Bahadur Sawand highlighted the importance of collective efforts in preventing GBV and assured coordination with all stakeholders.
