November 22, 2024, Kanchanpur: Saathi, under its GOAL Project, organized three joint meetings involving parents, teachers, and students in Shuklaphanta Municipality (Ward No. 11) and Krishnapur Municipality (Ward No. 2). These events aimed to foster dialogue on addressing gender-based violence (GBV) and creating a safe and inclusive school environment for adolescents.
The meetings highlighted the importance of sensitization across families, schools, and adolescent communities to ensure a GBV-free environment in educational institutions. Parents expressed concerns over the rising incidents of abuse faced by adolescents, both within schools and through external influences such as social networks and at home. They emphasized the need for greater awareness among students and school personnel, noting that anyone within the school environment could potentially be a perpetrator or victim of GBV.
Teachers shared their commitment to fostering a safe school atmosphere and proposed measures to strengthen GBV prevention. They agreed on the importance of appointing a dedicated gender focal person in schools to address GBV cases and ensure a secure environment for students.
The event brought together 50 participants, reflecting a collective effort to tackle GBV and promote awareness at the grassroots level.
Key Takeaways from the Meeting:
- Recognition of the growing need for sensitization among adolescents, parents, and school personnel.
