June 6, 2025, Shuklaphanta/Krishnapur – As part of its Generating Ownership Awareness & Liberation (GOAL) Project intervention, supported by AEIN Luxembourg, Saathi successfully organized two joint parent-teacher-student meetings aimed at fostering dialogue on school safety and the prevention of gender-based violence (GBV). The meetings were held at Siddh Bhim School in Shuklaphanta Municipality on 21 May 2025, and at Bal Kalyan Adharbhut School in Krishnapur Municipality on 6 June 2025.
The sessions brought together 30 participants, including parents, teachers, and students from Ward No. 11 of Shuklaphanta and Ward No. 2 of Krishnapur, to engage in open discussions around the increasing risks of violence and abuse in both home and school settings. The events served as platforms to raise awareness among parents about the different forms of GBV that adolescents face, including those occurring online, and emphasized the shared responsibility of families, schools, and students in building a safe and violence-free learning environment.
During the discussions, parents voiced deep concerns about the rise in abuse—both physical and digital—that adolescents are subjected to. They called for targeted awareness and sensitization programs for teachers, school personnel, and students. Teachers, in turn, acknowledged these concerns and reaffirmed their dedication to student safety and well-being.
These meetings highlighted the urgent need for multi-level, community-based interventions to prevent GBV and promote safety in educational spaces. Participants expressed strong commitment to continued collaboration in making schools safer, more inclusive, and supportive for all students.
This initiative is part of Saathi’s ongoing work under the GOAL Project, which focuses on promoting gender-transformative, accountable, and inclusive governance systems in schools and communities across Nepal.
