July 29 – 31, Kanchanpur, Nepal – In a continued effort to uplift individuals affected by gender-based violence (GBV), Saathi, under the GOAL Program with support from AEIN, has provided seed money assistance to GBV survivors in Shuklaphanta and Krishnapur Municipalities of Kanchanpur district. This initiative aims to strengthen survivors’ economic resilience, self-reliance, and dignity through sustainable income-generating activities.
A total of four women survivors – two from Shuklaphanta Municipality and two from Krishnapur Municipality – received tailored support to kickstart small-scale businesses of their choice. These include cow farming, buffalo farming, goat rearing, and grocery shop operations.
Speaking at the support distribution event, Ms. Kalpana Kumari Joshi (Panta), Deputy Mayor of Shuklaphanta Municipality, emphasized, “This kind of support not only enhances the confidence of women survivors but also strengthens their journey toward economic self-reliance. Empowering women economically is key to building equitable families and communities.”
Mr. Arjun Singh Saud, Chairperson of Ward No. 2, Krishnapur Municipality, commended Saathi’s efforts, stating, “This intervention directly contributes to women’s economic and social empowerment. Such initiatives are instrumental in restoring hope and dignity in their lives.”
The beneficiaries shared heartfelt appreciation for the support, noting that the seed money has significantly increased their confidence and provided them with a foundation for financial stability. One survivor remarked, “This support is more than just money – it’s a turning point that’s helping me overcome the hardships and discrimination I’ve faced.”
This economic empowerment initiative reflects Saathi’s broader commitment to ensuring that GBV survivors not only receive protection and psychosocial care but also have access to long-term, sustainable livelihood opportunities.
