August 12, 2026, Shuklaphnata, Kanchanpur

With support from AEIN Luxembourg under the GOAL, Saathi organized a two-day workshop for women and Dalit ward representatives from Krishnapur and Shuklaphanta Municipalities on 11–12 August 2026. The workshop focused on strengthening an intersectional gender-transformative approach (GTA) in local governance, with the objective of enhancing elected representatives’ capacity to promote inclusive, gender-responsive and transformative governance and integrate GTA into local government structures and processes.

The workshop covered gender roles, intersectionality, multiple discrimination, gender-sensitive, gender-responsive and gender-transformative approaches, with a focus on applying GTA in local planning and budgeting, participation and inclusion, equitable resource access, and GBV fund allocation and utilization. It also highlighted the roles of elected representatives in advancing gender equality and transformative local governance.

CEDAW Committee Member Ms. Bandana Rana provided an inspiring reflection on the role of women leaders in advancing transformative actions for the empowerment of women and marginalized groups. Her sharing encouraged participants to recognize their leadership positions as opportunities to challenge discriminatory norms, strengthen inclusion and promote meaningful change within their communities.

The workshop provided participants with an opportunity to reflect on existing gender and social inequalities and identify practical actions to promote greater participation, inclusion, equality and transformative change within their respective wards and municipalities.

A total of 44 ward representatives participated in the event.
