May 29, 2024, Kanchanpur: A monitoring team of AEIN Luxembourg visited Saathi’s program area in Kanchanpur district of Sudurpaschim province on 29 May.

Saathi under the auspices of AEIN has been implementing Generating Ownership Awareness & Liberation (GOAL): From Harmful Gender Stereotypes and Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) program starting this year.

The team led by Françoise Binsfeld, the executive director of AEIN, discussed with rights holders of the program including teachers, students, SGBV survivors, community change makers and local government representatives.

The team attended the concluding ceremony of the self-defense training conducted for the adolescent girls of Krishanpur Municipality-2. At the event, the girls exhibited the skills they learned in self-defense, which will help them ward off any ill-intentioned attacks and violence. The event also marked International Menstrual Hygiene Day.

Speaking at the event, Bensfeld encouraged the adolescent girls who graduated from the self-defense training to fight for their rights, demystify harmful traditional practices, and break gender stereotypes at school, in the community, and at home.

Saathi’s Executive Director, Suvekchya Rana, urged the local government to make focused interventions to address harmful traditional practices that hinder the advancement of women and girls and result in gender-based discrimination and violence.

They assessed the situation related to SGBV in the program area by discussing it with local government representatives, including the mayor, deputy mayor, and ward chairs of Krishapur and Shuklaphanta Municipality. The GOAL program is focused on Krishapur-2 and Shuklaphanta-11.

The team also had a fruitful discussion with the All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) officials in Mahendranagar, focusing on mobilizing male footballers to raise mass awareness against GBV and promote gender equality.

The AEIN team also included Michèle Jensen-Carlen, the Communication and Donor Relations Manager, Claire Molitor, the Awareness Raising Officer, and Ramesh Twayana, the Nepal Coordinator.
