Kanchanpur, November 12, 2024 – In an effort toward empowering survivors of gender-based violence, Saathi provided livelihood support to 10 women in Kanchanpur on Tuesday. This initiative was part of the Generating Ownership Awareness & Liberation (GOAL) program, implemented in collaboration with AEIN (Aide à l’Enfance de l’Inde et du Népal).

The support distribution was conducted in close coordination with Shuklaphanta Municipality Ward-11 and Krishnapur Municipality Ward-2, ensuring community-level engagement and impact. As part of the program, eight women received goats, one woman was provided with a cow, and another received assistance to establish a small shop. These measures aim to diversify income opportunities and strengthen the economic resilience of survivors.

The distribution event saw the participation of key local representatives, including the Deputy Mayor, Ward Chairs, Ward Members, and members of the Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Monitoring Team. Their involvement underscored a collective commitment to addressing economic challenges and empowering women in the region.

“This is just the beginning—a foundational support for the survivors. The goal is for them to build on this by raising the livestock provided and expanding the businesses they have started. This growth will help them achieve economic independence, which is a critical step in breaking free from the cycles of violence they face,” Kalpana Kumari Joshi (Pant), Deputy mayor, Shuklaphanta Municipality.

This initiative focuses on enabling women to create sustainable livelihoods by equipping them with essential resources and skills. By fostering economic independence, the program aims to support long-term socio-economic development in rural areas.

The active collaboration of local representatives and the program organizers demonstrates a shared dedication to uplifting women and tackling the barriers they face. This effort not only supports survivors in rebuilding their lives but also contributes to the broader development of their communities.

This initiative is expected to bring transformative change to the lives of the beneficiaries, providing them with the tools and opportunities to thrive economically and socially,” Anup Nasnani, Program Manager, Saathi added.
