Udaya Higher Secondary School and Kanchanjangha Higher Secondary School, in collaboration with Saathi, organized a three-day municipal-level boys’ football tournament in Krishnapur Municipality, Kanchanpur, to promote positive masculinity, challenge harmful gender stereotypes, and advance gender equality through sports.

The tournament brought together 12 boys’ teams and attracted more than 500 spectators, providing an opportunity to engage boys and young men in conversations about respect, equality, inclusion, and non-violence. Saathi supported the participating teams with football jerseys and sports materials. Information, Education and Communication (IEC) materials carrying messages against gender discrimination and harmful gender stereotypes were also displayed during the event.

The initiative aimed to encourage boys and young men to become positive agents of social change by promoting values such as empathy, cooperation, fair play, shared responsibility, and respect for all. It emphasized that strength is demonstrated not through dominance or discrimination, but through respect for others, standing against injustice, and supporting equal rights and opportunities.

Through teamwork and collective participation, the tournament demonstrated how sports can serve as a powerful platform for challenging harmful gender norms, fostering positive attitudes, and inspiring social change among young people.

Since 2024, Saathi, with support from AEIN Luxembourg, has been implementing the Generating Ownership, Awareness and Liberation (GOAL): From Harmful Gender Stereotypes and SGBV Project in Krishnapur Ward No. 2 and Shuklaphanta Ward No. 11 of Kanchanpur. The project works with schools, local governments, and communities to challenge harmful gender stereotypes, prevent sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV), and promote gender equality.
