August 11 – 16, Farwestern Province – Saathi successfully organized a three-day Interagency Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Case Management Training in Sudurpaschim Province under the GBVPR-II and EWPN programs supported by UNFPA. Conducted in two batches, the first training was held from 11–13 August 2025 and the second from 14–16 August 2025, with a total of 55 participants.
Focus and Objectives
The training was designed to strengthen participants’ knowledge and skills in GBV case management, with a strong focus on:
- Survivor-centered guiding principles
- Effective communication and coordination
- Staff care and psychosocial well-being
- Supporting service providers in applying these skills to strengthen case management and ensure integrated, holistic support to survivors
Key Messages from UNFPA
In the opening session, Mr. Raj Kumar Dhungana, Province Head of UNFPA Sudurpaschim, highlighted the critical importance of sensitivity and confidentiality in handling GBV cases. He further emphasized:
- The need to prioritize the mental and social well-being of frontline staff
- Collective efforts for structural and institutional reforms
- Integrated service delivery as the foundation of effective response and prevention
Diverse Participation
The training brought together a wide range of GBV frontline actors, including:
- OCMC focal persons
- GESI focal persons of municipalities
- Case managers and psychosocial counsellors
- CPSW coordinators
- Frontline staff from women’s safe houses
- Representatives of the Women, Children, and Senior Citizen Service Centers of district police offices
Participants represented seven districts of Sudurpaschim Province: Achham, Bajura, Bajhang, Baitadi, Doti, Kanchanpur, and Kailali, creating a strong multi-district, multi-sectoral platform for cross-learning and collective problem-solving.
Reflections from Participants
Participants shared that the training acted as a much-needed refresher course, helping them revisit and reinforce the steps of GBV case management. Many noted that in field practice, crucial steps are sometimes overlooked, and this training helped sharpen their knowledge and improve adherence to survivor-centered processes.
