February 7, 2026, Krishnapur Municipality, Far-western Province – As part of its ongoing commitment to engage school-going youth and empower adolescents to challenge deeply rooted gender stereotypes in rural communities. Saathi, through the GOAL Project supported by AEIN Luxembourg (and the Luxembourg Ministry of Development Cooperation/Luxembourg Ministry of Environment, Climate and Sustainable Development), continues to implement awareness-based interventions using sports as a powerful tool for social change.

In collaboration with the Ward No. 2 Office of Krishnapur Municipality and Udaya Secondary School, Girls’ and Boys’ Volleyball Tournaments were successfully organized in Krishnapur on 7 February 2026. The events aimed to build confidence among adolescents and encourage them to question and break discriminatory gender norms through inclusive and participatory sports activities.

The tournaments brought together four girls’ teams and eight boys’ teams, creating an energetic and supportive environment for youth engagement. Beyond competitive play, participants actively amplified social messages by displaying banners advocating for the prevention of sexual and gender-based violence and the elimination of harmful gender stereotypes.

Such sports-based initiatives provide a dynamic platform to empower girls by strengthening their confidence, leadership, and team spirit, while also engaging boys as allies in promoting gender equality. By combining physical activity with social awareness, these tournaments contribute to challenging discriminatory norms that often limit girls’ opportunities and potential across education, participation, and leadership.

Saathi remains committed to working with local governments, schools, and communities to foster safe, inclusive spaces where young people can learn, lead, and contribute to building a more gender-equal society.
