May 1, 2025, Kathmandu – A one-day workshop was organized for the Child Club committee members from all four Children Safer Homes of Saathi, bringing together children to enhance their understanding of child clubs, their roles, and the responsibilities of executive members. Twenty-nine children participated in the workshop. The session aimed to build foundational knowledge on child participation, leadership, structure and responsibilities of child club and democratic processes within the club structure. Following the workshop, an election was conducted where 93 children residing in the safer homes, aged 10 to 18 exercised their right to vote, successfully electing 13 new executive committee members. The tenure of the child club will be for two years.
Such events are vital as they empower children to take active roles in decision-making, develop leadership skills, and promote accountability and inclusion within their living environments. The workshop and election collectively contribute to maintaining a culture of participation, responsibility, and confidence among children, reinforcing the values of child rights and democratic engagement from an early age.
