Jhalari, Far-Western Province, March 28, 2025 – Saathi, under the GOAL Program and in the auspices of AEIN Luxembourg, successfully organized a one-day workshop on the Gender Transformative Approach and Referral Mechanism in Jhalari, Shuklaphanta Municipality. The workshop aimed to enhance community leaders’ understanding of gender-sensitive practices, challenge harmful gender norms, and strengthen knowledge on effective referral mechanisms for survivors of gender-based violence (GBV).

The event provided an in-depth focus on the Gender Transformative Approach, which seeks to challenge and change harmful gender norms and power structures. Through interactive sessions, participants learned how to identify gender inequalities, support survivors of GBV, and promote inclusive environments for women and girls.

The discussions delved into prevailing gender roles that hinder women’s and girls’ opportunities, the root causes of Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV), and its various manifestations. A key aspect of the workshop was the evaluation of existing referral mechanisms at the local level, exploring ways to enhance these support systems for survivors. Participants actively engaged in group discussions, sharing insights and brainstorming potential solutions to address gender-related challenges in their communities.

Adding a practical dimension to the workshop, participants performed role-plays depicting social settings that highlight gender dynamics. Additionally, personal testimonies and experiences related to GBV were shared, providing a poignant perspective on the real-life impacts of gender inequalities and violence.

This initiative is part of Saathi’s broader effort under the GOAL project to empower local leaders with the knowledge and tools to promote gender equality and create a robust support system for GBV survivors.

More than 30 participants attended the workshop, including ward members, female community health volunteers, members of child clubs, and community leaders. The active participation and rich discussions demonstrated a strong commitment to fostering a gender-equal society through informed leadership and action.
