Kanchanpur, July 25, 2025 — In a concerted effort to build safer and more inclusive school environments, Saathi, under the GOAL (Generating Ownership, Awareness, and Liberation) program supported by AEIN Luxembourg, organized a workshop on Gender Transformative Learning Approaches for schoolteachers in Jhalari, Shuklaphanta Municipality.
The one-day workshop aimed to enhance teachers’ understanding of gender biases in education, strengthen their capacity for gender-responsive teaching, and equip them with tools to prevent and address gender-based violence (GBV) in schools.
Speaking at the opening session, Ms. Kalpana Kumari Joshi (Pant), Deputy Mayor of Shuklaphanta Municipality, highlighted the alarming rise in early marriage and substance abuse among adolescents. She noted that these issues are not only harming the future of young people but also undermining efforts to build a safe and violence-free society. She called for increased sensitivity and collective responsibility to address these pressing challenges.
The sessions were facilitated by Mr. Gokul Khadka, a gender and child rights expert. He guided participants through discussions on children’s rights—including protection, survival, development, and participation—as well as the importance of gender equality in education. The training emphasized inclusive teaching strategies, gender-sensitive classroom management, and the role of educators, institutions, and communities in promoting gender equity in schools.
Participants explored actionable strategies to identify and challenge harmful gender norms, while fostering respectful and inclusive learning environments. The workshop helped deepen their understanding of gender-transformative education and empowered them to become agents of change within their schools and communities.
A total of 26 teachers participated in the workshop—14 from Krishnapur Municipality and 12 from Shuklaphanta Municipality.
This initiative is part of the broader GOAL program supported by AEIN Luxembourg, which aims to empower individuals and institutions to challenge inequality and violence through awareness, ownership, and gender justice.
