Kathmandu, January 30-31, 2025 – A comprehensive two-day training session on Technology-Facilitated Gender-Based Violence (TFGBV)Online Child Sexual Exploitation (OCSE), and Internet Safety was successfully conducted under the auspices of the Embassy of France in Nepal. Renowned trainer Mr. Prabesh Subedi led the session, which was held on January 30 and 31, 2025. The event brought together 20 members of Saathi, including representatives from both central and district levels, to address the growing challenges of digital threats and online safety. The training aimed to equip participants with the knowledge and tools necessary to navigate the digital world securely and to raise awareness about the risks associated with online activities.

Organized with the support of the Embassy of France in Nepal, the training adopted a highly interactive and participatory approach, combining group work, discussions, and PowerPoint presentations to ensure active engagement. On the first day, the 20 Saathi members shared their personal experiences and expectations, setting the stage for an insightful and collaborative learning environment. The session focused on critical aspects of digital safety, including identifying online risks and vulnerabilities, understanding the security cycle framework, and implementing preventive measures to safeguard personal and sensitive information. Participants were introduced to the security cycle framework, a comprehensive approach to digital safety that includes identifying assets, evaluating threats, recognizing threat actors and their motives, and implementing effective security strategies.

The second day delved deeper into practical applications of the concepts discussed. The Saathi members engaged in hands-on activities and group discussions to explore real-world scenarios and solutions. Key topics included avoiding unknown friend requests and suspicious links, enhancing social media security settings, using strong and unique passwords, and installing and regularly updating antivirus software. The training also emphasized the importance of avoiding public Wi-Fi networks, limiting unnecessary app installations, and raising awareness about digital safety within communities. Participants learned about the risks of oversharing on social media, the importance of disabling location access when not needed, and the need to verify the reliability of online shopping platforms. Additionally, the session highlighted the significance of restricting children’s access to unsafe apps and regularly backing up data to prevent loss.

By the end of the two-day training, the 20 Saathi members expressed a strong commitment to applying the knowledge gained to protect themselves and others from online threats. They pledged to share awareness within their communities and implement the security measures discussed during the training. Mr. Subedi emphasized the need for more such initiatives to empower individuals and communities to navigate the digital world safely, stating, “Awareness and proactive measures are key to ensuring a safer online environment for everyone.” The training proved to be a significant step toward building digital resilience and combating technology-facilitated gender-based violence and online child exploitation. Participants lauded the session for its practical approach and relevance in today’s digital age, marking a crucial milestone in promoting internet safety and digital well-being.
