December 23 , 2024 | Jhalari, Shuklaphanta Municipality – Under the Generating Ownership Awareness & Liberation (GOAL) program executed with AEIN, Aide à l’Enfance de l’Indi et du Népal, Saathi organized a workshop on the Intersectional Gender Transformative Approach and Referral Mechanism in Jhalari, Shuklaphanta Municipality. The two-day event was purposed for strengthening the capacities of stakeholders to support survivors of GBV, informing them on gender-transformative approaches, and referring mechanisms amongst others. Overall, 37 participants from Krishnapur Municipality and Shuklaphanta Municipality attended the workshop.

The sessions addressed a number of issues related to gender-based violence, including gender roles, forms of GBV, harmful social practices, and gender-transformative approaches. Participants were also introduced to referral mechanisms, focusing on the structure and services provided by One-Stop Crisis Management Centres.

The participants took part in group exercises and presentations that showed how gender roles perpetuate discrimination and how referral mechanisms can provide comprehensive support to survivors. Discussions that came out pointed to harmful practices, gender-discriminatory statements in society, and the identification of key individuals and agencies involved in the referral process.

The workshop was helpful for the participants to get valuable knowledge regarding the services provided by OCMCs and the referral mechanism at large. It also called for addressing the root causes of gender inequality through gender transformative approaches to create equitable societies.
